Na diverse wisselingen van naam en bezetting sinds 1958, debuteerde Ekseption in 1966 met de single Ekseption At ABC. In 1967 en 1968 brengt Ekseption twee singles uit op het Imperial label, maar de grote doorbraak komt als de band in 1969 een contract krijgt bij Philips waar hun naamloze
