Baked goods and seasonal produce
We’re all-in on growing good food and having fun doing it. Ask us how.
Meet Matt and Tess
Hey y’all! We’re Matt and Tess from Headlong Farm. With so many new folks joining us this year, we wanted to share how it all started. Back in 2019, after a deep YouTube rabbit hole, Matt said, “I want to quit my job and start a farm!” Tess replied, “OK, why not?!” After a lot of research, one legendary spreadsheet, and a leap of faith, we found a former horse ranch near friends in Elgin. We got the keys just two days before the March 2020 lockdown and began learning the land one step at a time.
Those early years were full of trial and error—raising animals, growing food, baking bread, and learning regenerative practices—along with plenty of setbacks (weather, broken pipes, bad fences, and some truly bold rats). What carried us through was the incredible support of our community: friends at the Elgin Farmers Market, our neighbors, early customers, farmhands, and Chemn Cafe, who believed in us from the start.
That support made it possible for us to open our farmstand this year. Our hope is to create a place where people can reconnect with the land, learn something new, and feel part of a shared agrarian story. We’d love for you to visit us at the market or on the farm—and be part of the next chapter of Headlong Farm.
